Sewing on Sunday! - OUCH

I have the best grandparents. They have all passed away now but the things they taught are still a part of my life. My grandma Wallin - my mom's mom - always had the philosopy that one should not sew, crochet, knit etc on Sunday. She always told us that "whatever you stitch on Sunday you will have to pick out with your nose in heaven". So growing up I was always extremely careful not to ever do any of that kind of thing on Sunday. Now as I am grown I realize that probably isn't true - or is it?

Okay so here is the story...my sister was here this past weekend to pick up my parents and take them back to Utah. She wanted me to make her a couple of the bags that I make so on Saturday we got the fabric and started the process. Sunday after church and dinner and a drive around town we got back to the sewing because she was leaving on Monday. We figured that it was relaxing and totally in keeping with Sabbath activities. I was doing so well. We were mass producing 3 bags. She would pin them together and I would sew them up. Well, I'm going along great guns and all of a sudden I couldn't move my finger. Yep, you guessed it - I sewed my finger right down to the fabric. I said to my sister - "Oh, I just sewed right through my finger!" So I slowly turned the knob on the sewing machine to try and remove the needle from my finger. As soon as the needle was removed I decided that it really hurt - REALLY HURT! It bled like a stuck hog - which is good I guess. I put a bandaid on it and back to work we went. Joela took over the sewing however. I did the pinning. The bags turned out great and my finger is fine although a bit sore.

I got a tetnus shot yesterday - not necessary because my finger needed it but because I haven't had one in my adult life so I endured the pain of the shot - it hurt worse than sewing my finger!

So now I ask - is the wound because I didn't follow grandma's warning to not sew on Sunday? Probably not but I will always remember it nonetheless. Will I stop sewing on Sunday? Not likely but I will always wonder if I will be picking out the stitches with my nose in heaven! My sister will be there keeping me company though! Memories! They make me smile :)

Oh, and we took a historical tour of our town on a trolley bus on Saturday morning - thanks to my good friend who does the tours in the summer. It was great fun. A nice way to spend a beautiful Saturday morning.

I love the bags. Wish I could have been there. Clint said that you could probably do better selling them on a blog than on ebay. You really should give it a try.

This is why I don't sew. Hardly ever. Okay, it's not the reason I don't sew, but it sounds nice! :) I'm glad you had such a great weekend with family...
