The Cruise

We got on the ship on Saturday. I was in awe at the size of this ship. It was unbelievably huge!

See the windows - on the ship - just below that is the port building - so starting at the windows is how much of the ship is seen above the building

Once we got to the port it took us about 30 minutes probably to get checked in and through security.

Waiting in line to check in
I was a bit surprised at the security measures to get on the ship. Every time we left the ship we had to have our ship ID card swiped and then getting back onto the ship from whatever port we were in required going through security, having our bags searched, etc. I'm thankful for the safety measures, it was just new to me.

Welcome aboard

When we finally got onto the ship we found one of the two restaurants that was open for lunch and had some lunch - we actually went to the buffet - it was awesome. Then we just wandered a little bit due to the fact that the staterooms were not ready yet.

The lobby where we entered the ship - Mom and Dad walking away

But by about 3:00 I think our floor was ready and so we went and found our room. Lynn's mom and dad were fortunate enough to have a balcony so they could enjoy the ocean whenever they wanted. We had an inside stateroom which was very dark and any time of the day or night but it was really comfortable and so it wasn't bad.

Our stateroom - bright colors - orange and pinkThe ship's crew delivered our luggage to us later that evening at which time I unpacked and stored the suitcases under the bed. It was nice to have a closet and drawers to use all week so that we didn't have to live out of the suitcase.

We set sail about 9:00 pm that night. I was so grateful for the seasick patch that I had - with the motion of the boat I'm afraid I would have been sick. The patch worked wonders. Sunday morning we woke up in Maui!
Going into port

We hadn't planned anything for that day knowing that we would need some time to rest and catch up from the travel days. So we ventured onto the Island for awhile and then just spent the day resting and exploring the ship.

This is how Lynn explored the ship...by the pool reading :)

Trying to get an idea of how big the ship is...
On Monday we actually went on an excursion with our group and went into town and did some shopping. It was great fun.

By the Banyon tree on Maui - these trees are cool - they send down little limbs - they look almost like dead vines but as soon as they hit the ground they become hard and grow into trunks of the tree - so this particular tree has tunks that all connect and cover a city block. They are fascinating trees. All the trunks you see in the background connect somehow! The weather was beautiful - 85 and sunny sunny! Loved it!!!!!! We set sail again Monday night - heading for the big island of Hawaii - Hilo side. Stay tuned...
